Master BIM with buildingSMART certification

In today's fast-paced AEC industry, staying ahead of the curve is essential. Building Information Modeling (BIM) has revolutionised the way we design, build, and operate built assets. However, to truly maximise the benefits of BIM, collaboration and data interoperability are key.

That's where buildingSMART comes in: as a global organisation driving digitalisation in AEC, buildingSMART is setting the benchmark for internationally-recognised BIM standards – thereby improving the quality, consistency and efficiency of projects.

This article will explore buildingSMART, outline the benefits of certification, and how you can leverage its resources to enhance your BIM projects.

What is buildingSMART international?

buildingSMART is an international organisation that drives digitalisation in AEC through the adoption of openBIM® standards – a platform-agnostic solution that educates and empowers the industry to deliver cheaper, greener and more efficient buildings and infrastructure.

Whether you’re new to BIM or an experienced user, buildingSMART provides comprehensive resources, including standards, tools and training, to help use the power of openBIM® effectively.

Unlike software-specific solutions, buildingSMART’s openBIM® principles allow for seamless data exchange and interoperability across providers. This ensures that project information can be shared and accessed consistently by all team members, regardless of the BIM tools they use.

Cadpro is proudly certified by buildingSMART Australasia, ensuring our solutions align with industry best practices across Australia and New Zealand. We are one of only two official providers in ANZ to offer the training and certification.

What does buildingSMART promote?

  • Robust processes using global openBIM® standards
  • Reliable flow of information for openBIM® data exchange
  • Industry-wide collaboration through interoperability
  • Learning opportunities through workshops and events
  • BIM course development in universities and the education industry
  • Information enrichment to develop BIM learning opportunities

buildingSMART certification

Now running across 25+ countries, buildingSMART’s professional certification programme establishes an internationally-recognised standard of competency in BIM. With a particular focus on openBIM principles, there are four levels of accreditation:

  • Entry
  • Foundation
  • Management
  • Practitioner

Cadpro offers the Foundation level course. This provides an understanding of the core concepts around BIM and openBIM, around buildingSMART solutions and standards, and the ISO 19650 standards. Over 20,000 individuals have achieved certification at this level.

Users are encouraged to take the free, Entry level certification as an introduction before moving on to the more advanced levels of formal training.
