Spotlight on Artificial Intelligence
Artificial intelligence (AI) captured the attention of the worldwide audience when the AI research organisation OpenAI introduced ChatGPT in the latter part of 2022. The integration of generative pre-trained transformer (GPT) models into ChatGPT played a pivotal role in propelling AI into the forefront of global discussions.
In 2023, generative AI saw remarkable advancements: Anthropic's Claude enhanced its text processing by 1,011% in just two months, ChatGPT passed the bar exam, Google revolutionised internet searches with generative AI, Spotify launched a personalised AI DJ, and MidJourney democratised generative AI images.
Beyond the media spotlight, AI's integration into "design and make" sectors — linking digital design to project delivery — has evolved over a decade, starting with neural network training for image recognition.
According to Autodesk's 2024 State of Design & Make survey, 66% of industry leaders believe AI will be essential for their businesses in the next 2-3 years. The rapid adoption of Autodesk's AI tools across architecture, engineering, design, operations (AECO), manufacturing (D&M), and media and entertainment (M&E) industries speaks to the transformative impact of AI in these fields.
